Tackle
Getaway Adventures Lodge
prides it's self in providing our guests with the most up to date and top
of the line equipment available. We provide all the knowledge, tackle,
lures, booties, and fish; however, you have to provide the desire. Please
check out our
sponsors' page to see the type of equipment we provide. However,
we do realize with the technical nature of our sport most anglers like to
provide their own equipment. In that case, please use the following
as a guide for preparation:
Conventional Tackle
-
Light to Medium action
casting rods, or spinning rods, from 6 to 7 feet
-
Baitcasters or Spinning
Reels lined with 8 to 12 pound test line
-
Wading belt loaded with
topwaters, suspending baits, and 1/4oz Jig Heads. We recommend
using our soft plastics if you do not call ahead to find what colors
are working.
-
Waterproof Camera for
future fame.
Fly Tackle
-
For the bay, 4 to 8 weight
with corresponding lines.
-
Offshore, we recommend our
tackle, but if your own bring a 12 to 17 weight with corresponding
lines
-
As many flies as possible.
However, new for 2007, we are selling flies tied specifically for the
lower Laguna Madre and Gulf of Mexico in the lodge.
-
Stripping basket if you
desire.
-
Casting Gloves and finger
protectors

Dress
May Through
October
We enjoy
unusually warm to hot weather and bathtub warm water. Typical fishing
apparel consists of a vented shirt, shorts, good hat, booties, polarized
sunglasses, and a bandana to protect tender necks from the sun.
November through
April
During our winter months, our
weather can only be described as eclectic at best. We may start
the morning in the low forties and end the afternoon in the low
eighties. However, the water will range between 60 and 72 degrees so
please make sure to bring waders. Breathable, or neoprene is at
the waders discretion; however, after a front we definitely recommend
neoprene!

Weather Preparation
Sun
The Lower Rio Grande
Valley is buffeted by intense sunlight year round. For those sensitive
to intense sun exposure, we strongly recommend long sleeved shirts and
pants with integrated UV protection, hat with a neck protector or
bandanna, and COPIOUS amounts of sun block. Also as a word of warning,
when on the boat remember the top of your feet will burn very quickly.
Rain
Although we
experience lower rain averages than the rest of the state, we recommend
to pack light rain gear year round.
Cold Weather
Most of our cold weather
occurs during the Trophy Trout months of December through March.
Simply remember, layers are the only way to go. Bring a light pair
of neoprene wading gloves, neoprene or breathable waders, lots of
fleece, and a lined wading jacket.

License
The state of Texas
requires all anglers, even when fishing with a licensed guide, to acquire
an applicable fishing license. If license are forgotten, or need to be
obtained, they maybe purchased locally; however, to save time and
frustration, the appropriate licenses may be acquired from the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department web site prior to your visit.
