Hello everyone,

I will be in PM for my annual fishing trip dec. 5th. We always fish PM this week of the year, but of course the weather is different each time we come. I have been watching the weather closely, and it has given rise to a few questions. In general, how big a role does water temperature play in the patterns that fish follow? Is it a factor, the most important factor, the only factor? more specifically, if temperatures hold like they have been, will fall patterns hold indefinitely, or will the fish ultimately yield to other factors? I am thinking specifically about the possibility of topwater action in earl december.

thanks for any comments,

david lesher

I too have a few questions that follow up on Lesh .. I will not be doing much hunting this yr and will be trying to target some of the illusive Dott'd Beasts ( trying) .. what depths are best to fish.. real shallow or a bit deeper .. hard sandy bottoms or muddy soft stuff .. I have all the gear so jumping in won't deter me .. just knowing where I may have the best chance to have a few hook ups is what I'm looking for .. and is top water good all throught this winter feeding time .. or just vaires!! thanks for any advice in the right direction .. caught about 6 25 inch trout last yr .. all released.. looking for that dirty 30!!!! thanks again!!

Start a little deeper as the day warns up if it doe's work your way a little more shallow till you find them .I like a hard shell bottom .Like the spoils by the old bernnie's shack you will find deep water then work your way along the spoil .  catch 2000 white red head or your go to lure in white slow crankinng a swim bait may work. But the key word Here Is Slow.Till you find the pattern they like. Make sure your waders don't have any hole's AND ALWAYS DO THE PORTMANSFIELD SHUFFLE.Good Luck

Boy's deep...typically I can fan cast and reach the shoreline and also get to the deeper water.  for tops, work it slow and with the Catch 2000s, I, at the least, and I think dad, rig three of the same patterns with different weighted hooks, so you can work the bait at the same speed but at different depths in the H20 column.  Dad likes the red/white, too, but I prefer the chartruese/white for tannin colored water, black for dark water and dark green back for clear water.

The biggest difference this time of year is to time the weather and find structure.
