South of Benny's Shack near Saucer area!!!

My friend and i just had a great begining of a week. We went out and hit our limit of speckled trout!! We started off by anchoring in around the first white pole just south east of Benny's shack. And didnt do so good so we decided to drift and wam bam thank you ma'am and it was "fish on" for the next 6 hours. We hooked about 40 trout and a few flounder but only kept the keepersof course. We started around 7:30 in the a.m, and continued on till we got burnt andcouldnt find any reds. Thats what we were really looking for. We used Gilp new penny and Nuclear Chicken and a root beer cocohoa as bait. There were several other boats out just didnt seem to have our luck I guess they cam in empty handed when we met them at the dock. Well to each its own. I hope this helps anyone out there wanting to go fishing...we had a blast.

Wow. sounds like tons of fun. Dad and I were out at Port Mansfield that same day; had everything planned out-- was going to drift same area, or so I think (the whole saucer area) I had my map all hi-lited and stuff. We get there only to find out there was no live shrimp. Dad says "
no ay mas
lets go to the island".
I was thinking, like what do you mean I just recently loaded my tackle box with all kinds of lures that I've bought recently mainly from reading from post and magazines...however Being that I have not proved to my dad that we can catch fish on lures-- that and last time we were out in port mansfield for the first time on a boat without live shrimp we didn't catch but catfish and a few whiting- I had not much to say to my defense.... we ended up going to port isabel.
3 hours after having left home we finally made it to the water. Fished along the icw near the bridge. moved over and drifted the along the holy beach - stover point area. We managed to get like 10 fish total (2 cats and 2 lady fish and some baby baby trout) with only 4 of them being keepers trouts (none over 20). little before sunset we headed out. another boat at the ramp didn't have a good catch either. Got home checked online for post and "wam bam thank you ma'am".. That was enough to get my mind going with what if's--- Couldn't sleep---- we could have had a blast. Guess that can happen if one does not stick to plan. Wind looking kind of naughty for friday sat, guess i'll have to wait to head that way. Hopefully next week.
Congrats and thanks for post.

You just have to force yourself to fish the plastic. At first it might be boring, but once you get a hit/hook-up, you'll be hooked. Overtime you'll build some confidence aswell as develop a confidence lure. There are times when you'll have to throw out a variety of colors until you hit the one they want. Just be patient, especially if working a top-water. hope this helps.

Hey E. Rivas, I just started fishing out off of Port Mans using live shrimp, you know just the basic stuff, but I was interested as to where I might be able to get Gilp new penny, Nuclear Chicken and Root Beer Cocohoa bait and what is it? Never heard of it! I just hooked up with some buddies that love going out there, we stay out there 6 to 7 hours and come back with a few fish, and we never limit out. Can you give me some advice on where to find this
Nuclear Chicken and stuff
and just where exactlly is or was Benny's shack? Thanks in advance.

Academy has every type of Gulp! you'd like. In fact, I think they have the buckets that have 100+ baits in each.
Bennie's Shack, rest in eternal peace, was on the south side of the first spoil island heading south. The remnants of its pier are still there.

You should be very pleased with the gulp lures, they are great lures. You might also want to try some blurps or slurps from bass assasin. There are tons of ways to fish these lures but I usually put them on 1/16 - 1/4 oz. jigheads.

Great advice CSA. WE typically find the 1/4 a bit heavy unless under a popping cork; however, 1/16 and 1/8 is our guides staff's go to weights. Yum also works well. It is salt infused, and my go to soft plastic.
I'd prefer to use Gulp!, but sponsorship deals don't allow it, and frankly, I hate the smell they leave on your fingers. The big benefit and the reason I'd rather use them is the fact they're 100% biodegradable.
New Penny and Nuke Chicken are the best colors for our waters, and reds appear to love the limetreuse.
Good Luck
