Does anyone have a favorite tackle box/ tackle storage system? I have found that as I have moved away from live bait towards artificial I have acquired more and more stuff and my tackle box has become a cluster YOU KNOW WHAT! I am looking for a way to keep both hard and soft lures organized, as well as hooks, jig heads, line, pliers, etc. and preferably dry. This is, I should say, for in the boat, as I have a good system for wading.

Thanks,

Lesh

Lesh
Since I don’t have to unload my tackle everyday I use Plano Plastic boxes for hard baits and sandwich bags for soft plastics. If I had to haul tackle I would invest in a GOOD soft sided box with plastic divided boxes inside. I would use the side compartments to store soft baits again in sandwich bags. Hope this helped. If you need additional info feel free to call. Sorry for the late response.

Lesh, Jim has one of the soft sides like Bruce is talking about,,you can get them in all sizes and by useing plastic boxes, if you get them the right size you can just slip them in your parka or waders for wading without tranferring.  You will need to make sure the sections or variable size diviiders which they most are these days...some of the lures are bigger than others and the top dogs and some of the larger mirror lures are bigger than some of the sections.    Most of the soft sides are waterproof also which help keep things dry etc.

Thanks guys. In the interim I have been to Academy for some "research" and I think I've come up with a good solution, and not unlike the ones you've mentioned. I plan to use a softside box that comes with hard plastic bins, however I will remove most of the bins and fill the space with "worm bag" type cases. I think this will accommodate everything I need to carry and keep it well organized.

I do have one concern though - the only waterproof box I found at Academy was made by H2O, and only cost $23. I am worried that the quality may not be good for that price. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Lesher,

try the Simms Dry Creek Bag.  I love mine and it is completely waterproof.  I have lost it over board twice and found it floating safely before getting reeled back in.  It is pricy but it is the last dry bag you will have to buy.  As far as the 'worm' bags, I completely disagree with dad and Trichel, love you guys but come on, take a walk down the shoreline on any given day and look at all the 'worm' bags that invariably got away from their owner.  Once plastic is created, it is never destroyed and will remain in the wild longer than we will.  I like to use permanent bags like the photos I have attached.  I picked my Okuma bag up for I think 9 dollars at Academy and i have been using it for three seasons now.  Stores nicely under a boat cushion or alongside your hard plastic storage bins.  Best part; it floats too.

Good luck and hug a tree  Wink

When I said worm bags, those permanent bags in binders was what I was talking about. I will check into the Simms waterproof bag, thanks for the tip.

Agree with Brandon and actaully have a Plano bag with the zip locks organized just as his photo shows...I keep my GULP's and soft plastics in there since I no longer am a "POT LICKER"  as the senior Capt from the getaway implies.   I have not seen the waterproof Simms product but will definetely take a look.  On my wade jacket I have two water proof pockets for the lures boxes, but I may need to inspect another method if I am to carry some soft plastics while wading.  I know it makes since to be prepared for whatever they want but you reach  a point around carrying tackle that you may as well drift so you can keep it all at hand!!  Just kidding,  I also kow that  wadding in weather when you do not need a water proof parka is also a reality, like in the spring when the temps heat up . So, good suggestions from all...besides it gives me a reason to go look for more tackle!!

Bruce, I have the fever so bad I have been looking at my old pictures and reliving all of the fun just to keep me from going crazy.  It is looking like my girls want a spring trip so we will be contacting you for a April-May date most likely. But, I would really like to slip down there for 2-3 day big trout wade trip.   Will be trying to work that one in for an extended weekend mide to late March and check with the leshers to see if they are up to it.

Will be calling when I have more details.

I looked online and found that Cabela's makes a line of softsides called "Storm Proof Bags". Anyone know anything about them? They sound good, and it's an excuse to go to Cabela's anyway!

Larry, I doubt if I can make a March trip - got alot going on and I'm also fishing in a tournament in Rockport in April. But good luck if you get to go, I will be jealous.

Thanks for all the suggestions on this somewhat mundane topic.
