Pending approval by the state the new, fly caught, record Red Snapper will be 11lbs 11oz caught by myself last Monday morning out of Port Mansfield. The bigger fish were suspending off the structure so the Lowrance 111 HD came in handy. I used a HEAVY Scientific Angler sink tip and a Seaguar Premier Fluoro leader to get my hand tied fly down to the fish. The Mustad Circle Streamer hook found a good hold and the fight was on, about 5 minutes later we slipped the beauty into the net for a clean catch.

The week was filled with beautiful weather and plentiful fish, what more could an angler ask for?

Good for you

IGFA Legal?  Stan Nabozny had the record with me that still stands as the IGFA 12 pound tippet record.  We broke the ciurrent dolphin red=cord this weekend...but filletted it before certifying  :Smiley

Congratulations!

It was an IGFA legal catch but it would have been 16lb tippet and I didn't think it would be close to the IGFA record....turns out it's only 8lbs or something I think.

There's always next time. I've got the record Mangrove Snapper as well, it would have been an IGFA record also had I known at the time. LOL

Jeff Pierce's dolpin record is due for breaking, he caught that fish, and a record king, with me several years ago out of Port. I can't believe it's stood this long.
