This past Friday I was joined by my good friend and Host of Americana Outdoors (Cabela’s) David West. David called on Monday to say he had Friday available to get a show in! After juggling our schedule the date was set and we were hoping for kind seas. Capt’s, Ted Springer, and B.J.Powell helped with the film crew. Our ace Offshore Capt. Frank Vasquez had a prior commitment and bowed out, much to everyone’s disappointment.

Ted and B.J. shadowed us to our first stop about 18 miles north of the Jetties and about ½ mile offshore. As David’s wife had requested a few snapper fillets for home, I started chumming to get them on the surface. Before I could get the first handful of chum over the gunnel a silver flash caught my eye. David had already started casting top waters for kings and was hooked up on his second cast. Needless to say the chumming stopped and I picked up a med action Pflueger Rod with 25# test. A 15 to 20 pound King ambushed my first cast halfway to the boat. For the next 45 minutes the action was nonstop. After having a 20 pound King smash a top water and go airborne 6 feet from the transom, John the camera man asked "What do we do if one lands in the boat" My and David’s answers were the same, The King wins, give him the boat!!!!

Had to be David to bring us back to reality, we need some snapper for the show and home. At this point we started chumming and in short order had his brides request covered and the snapper segment of the show complete. We then headed to the anchored shrimp boats; it only took visiting two boats to get back on the kings. For the next two hours we had non-stop action casting to 15 to 25 pound kings on light tackle. If you have never had this pleasure, words can hardly describe the fun and fast action these great fish provide. Look for this show to air early 2004, as always David and his crew do an excellent job editing and producing his programs.

Note, we are currently booking our cast and blast packages for this fall. If you are interested I suggest you contact us soon as possible as the choice dates are going quickly.

In checking the fields we look for outstanding White Wing and Morning Dove Hunts, couple these with great fall red fish action and you have a trip to remember.
