Getaway Adventures Lodge and the Shuler Family take conservation to heart.  The Shuler's take protecting the majesty and uniqueness of the lower Laguna Madre's ecosystem and the fish calling her home as a personal responsibility.  Our mission is to educate, entertain, and share with everyone the jewel of the Texas Gulf Coast.

The lower Laguna Madre is one of three hyper-saline lagoons in the northern hemisphere.  With 75% of her bottom covered in seagrasses, the Mother Lagoon teems with shrimp and forage fish that feed the most sought after species in Texas--the Texas Trophy Trout.  Mounting fishing pressure and a coastal population expected to double within twenty years has created some very unique challenges for the lower Laguna Madre.  Rest assured; the Shuler family will be doing all in our power to educate the public, protect our estuary, and report any situations involving the lower Laguna Madre to you.

The Conservation News Page is our effort to reach our mission and leave a legacy and fishery to be proud of in the future.  Check back here often for news and ways you can help to protect the lower Laguna Madre

Current Issues Facing the lower Laguna Madre

  • Regionalization of the lower Laguna Madre
Texas Parks and Wildlife has been monitoring a twenty year decline in Speckled Trout populations.  As the regulating agency, TPWD is holding public scoping meetings and hearings to find management options to reverse the downward trend.  The most popular, and common sense option, is the concept of regionalization.  Read more about the regionalization effort and lend your support on SupportRegionalization.com.  The lower Laguna Madre needs your support
